Dawson Community College is pleased to announce that Reserve Officer Training has been scheduled for Fall semester. The dates for the training are as follows:
Lecture session I begins Sept 27-29. Lecture session II begins October 11-13 (participants must attend both sessions). First Aid & CPR will run Oct 4 & 5 with Firearms Training rounding out the schedule, Oct 18-20 or Oct 26-27 and Nov 2-3 (the class will choose which weekend they want to have the firearms training). Participants that are currently 1st Aid & CPR and/or Firearms certified can be waived from those portions of the class.
The Reserve Officer Training 2013 curriculum was developed from the performance objectives of the Montana Law Enforcement Academy’s (MLEA) Police Basic Training Course. Agencies in DCC’s 17-county service area were asked to review relevant performance objectives from the Basic course, and identify the types of training a reserve officer should receive. Those results were then compiled into a comprehensive training curriculum for a reserve officer that meets and/or exceeds the 88 hours of training required by Montana law. Review of the curriculum is continual and topics and material are updated every year as necessary.
This year topics include: Police Ethics and Professionalism, Communications Reports/Records, Administration of Criminal Law, Interviews and Interrogations Laws of Arrest, Crime Investigation, Crowd Control Tactics, Defensive Tactics, Police-Human-Community Relations, Criminal Evidence, Crisis Intervention, Juvenile Procedures, Patrol Procedures, First Aid and CPR, Criminal Law, and Firearms Training (Departments may conduct their own firearms training. Contact DCC for information on this option).
This is a 5-credit college course intended to instruct students in 88 hours of training for reserve police officers as required by the Montana Code Annotated.
