Suela Cela, originally from Lushnje, Albania, instructs the Italian Culture, Culinary & Conversation Workshop at Dawson Community College, October 26 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cela uses a photo history presentation that includes art, food, conversation, and travel strategies in her unique introduction to Italy workshop.
Cela will acquaint students to a taste of Italy's amazing foods, serving pasta with a traditional Bolognese pasta sauce (red sauce) for lunch. "Normally a traditional Bolognese sauce has lots of different types of vegetables in it." said Cela. "I will be preparing the vegetables separately so my students can select what they like best to add to the sauce."
Throughout the day, students explore conversational Italian as they learn different types of greetings and how to ask questions frequently used while traveling. Some topics covered are: how to order food; finding transportation and locating landmarks; exchanging money; non-tourist shopping destinations and fun facts about the inventions and people of Italy.
About Suela Cela: Alumnus of DCC, instructor Suela Cela, grew up in Lushnje, Albania, a city of 70,000 people located 20 minutes from the Adriatic Sea and 3 hours, by boat, from the southern tip of Italy. Her parents always encouraged her to travel, as a result, she became an exchange student with Rosebud High School in Montana. She played basketball for Rosebud and visited Dawson Community College while participating in high school games held there. She decided then that DCC was a good fit for her, attending two years. A younger sister, Ajkena, has followed her across the pond, attending Dawson County High School where she is enjoying a productive year pursuing her passion with music and choir teacher, Mary Svenvold.
