The Dawson Community College Library provides access to a variety of electronic resources, including computer databases, software such as word processing, and the Internet. Access to these resources is provided to supplement and enhance the educational mission of DCC. Use of the library's electronic resources is governed by the DCC "Acceptable Use of Computer Information Systems Policy."
Rules for DCC Library Computers:
The DCC Library does not monitor and has no control over information found through the Internet or other electronic services. The Internet provides access to a wide variety of information and services and may contain material that is inaccurate, incomplete, unverified, or controversial. Users should exercise judgment and evaluate the information found. More accurate, comprehensive, or current information may be available through other resources such as books, periodicals, or electronic databases.
The DCC Library provides access to resources for all library users. The library does not censor access to materials or protect patrons from information that may be considered offensive to some. It should be noted, however, that the display of pornography could be interpreted as sexual harassment. As with all library materials, restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or guardian and not the library. The DCC Library adheres to the American Library Association's Bill of Rights guaranteeing the right of freedom of access to information regardless of format or delivery mechanism. The library does not guarantee privacy to users of public access computers.
Time Limits and Scheduling
Computer stations are available on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations or scheduling for individuals except that one or more stations may be reserved by DCC faculty or library staff for instructional purposes. Due to the limited number of workstations available, users are asked to limit use to 30 minutes whenever possible and especially when others are waiting. DCC students have priority for use of equipment.
All library computers print to a laser printer located at the main library desk, so prints can be picked up there. Please print only what is necessary in order to conserve resources.
