On-Campus Apartments

Dawson’s on campus Student Living Complex of Brueberg, Gibson and Kettner Hall combines the convenience of being on-campus with the freedom and comfort of your own apartment. The 36 apartments with a total housing capacity of 140 students. The residence halls are all located on the northeast edge of the campus. Students can easily access campus activities, yet still enjoy the quiet privacy of apartment living.

Campus apartments can fill by mid summer so apply early. The Student Living Complex opens in late August.

DCC apartments give residents the flexibility of cooking some of their own meals in conjunction with the Dawson Community College food plan.

The Apartment

Dawson's contemporary apartments are attractively designed with student needs in mind. Each apartment houses four students and has two bedrooms, a kitchen-dining room, living room, bathroom, and storage space. Each unit is furnished with extra long single beds, wardrobes, desks with chairs, a stove, a refrigerator, a kitchen table and four chairs, a couch, chairs, and end tables.

Kettner Hall, the newest residence building, also provides students with an automatic dishwasher. The furniture is movable so residents may personalize their apartment in a way that suits them.

Personal items may be added to supplement what is provided. All rooms have cable TV, computer internet access, and phone service (local calls are free but a telephone calling card of your choice can be used to make long distance calls).

Students must furnish their own bed, bath, and kitchen linens as well as kitchen utensils, dishes, pots/pans, and small appliances. Shower curtain, wastebasket, phone, smoke detector and window blinds are provided by the college.

Internet hookups are available in each unit. Introduction and access to the DCC system are provided to all residents the first week of each term.

State health policies do not alow students to keep pets in the Student Living Complex.

Two of the Student Living Complex apartments are specially equipped for handicapped students.

The Commons

The apartment complex has a commons that includes:

  ~an areas for recreation and entertaining

  ~a small kitchen for personal cooking

  ~game area with pool tables, foosball,

        and a library of movies and board games

  ~study area with computers

  ~TV Lounge

  ~vending machines

  ~coin operated laundry facilities

  ~student mailboxes-(Mail delivery is five days per week. Packages may be picked up in the Business Office. Students are assigned a mailbox relative to their room assignment.)

Parking

Parking is located within the complex and a limited number of electric plug-ins are available for an additional $35 per semester. Students interested in a plug-in need to contact the Business Office and these are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Apply for Housing

Students may request roommate preferences on the housing application. Assignments are made in the order applications are received.

To reserve a room in the DCC Student Living Complex, submit a $150 deposit with a housing application. This will guarantee a room for two semesters and will serve as a damage deposit. To be assigned campus housing, students must have applied for admission to DCC and be a full-time student.

Apartment rent is $1050 per person, per semester for the 2008-2009 school year. The cost of utilities, cable television and telephone is included in each students rent for the semester. Rent is due in full at semester registration.

All students living in campus housing are required to have the $600 a term food plan.

Residence halls are closed over the semester break, during spring break and at the end of the spring semester. The Housing contract and contract rates do not cover these periods. Should students need to reside during the semester or spring break they should contact the Housing Director to make arrangements and an additional fee will be charged.

The college assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to residents' personal property. You should consider the purchase of insurance or an extension of your parents insurance to cover loss or damage to personal property.
