Tech Prep Earns College Credit
Students can earn college credit while in high school without any financial burden. Many high school business, computer, auto mechanics, agriculture, CAD, welding and child development classes at high schools are approved for college credit because they have similar competencies as beginning college level courses. To earn Tech Prep credit, a student must achieve a B or better in the high school class plus pass a competency exam, if required.
The Tech Prep classes link the high school and two year college curriculums to eliminate unnecessary duplication of course work. Tech Prep offers a time-shortened or skilled enhanced curricula and a smoother transition from one education level to the next. Tech Prep emphasizes the technical skills needed for high productivity in today’s workforce.
To earn Tech Prep credits at DCC or MCC, follow the steps outlined below.
- A student must enroll in Tech Prep approved courses while in high school. Student form provided by the high school teacher.
- Eligible students must pass the course with B or better and if required, pass the competency exam administered by the high school teacher with an 80% or better.
- The eligible student must submit a completed Petition for Tech Prep credit form signed by high school teacher and counselor along with their college application. Forms may be obtained from the DCC Tech Prep office or high school counselor.
- The registrar will record a grade of "S" on the college transcript for the articulated course(s). Tech Prep credit will show on the DCC, MCC transcript when a student completes 12 credits (a full semester) from the participating college.
