The college will define communicable disease within its best interest and in accordance with information received through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Students or employees should contact the Vice President of Student Affairs or Human Resources Office respectively if there is concern about the possible contagious nature of any student or employee’s illness. Dawson Community College’s decisions involving persons who have communicable diseases shall be based on current and well-informed medical judgments concerning the disease, the risks of transmitting the illness to others, the symptoms and special circumstances of each individual who has a communicable disease, and a careful weighing of the identified risks and the available alternatives for responding to a student or employee with a communicable disease.

Dawson Community College will not discriminate against any student, job applicant, or employee based on the individual having a communicable disease. The college will not deny students, applicants, and employees access to the college solely because they have a communicable disease. Dawson Community College reserves the right to exclude a person with a communicable disease from college facilities, programs, and functions if the college finds that, based on a medical determination, such restriction is necessary for the welfare of the person who has the communicable disease and/or the welfare of others within the college. In case of a public health emergency, the college shall adhere to any communicable disease orders of the State or local public health agencies to prevent transmission of a communicable disease.
