COPYRIGHT AND FAIR USE PROCEDURE

The use and reproduction of copyright-protected material in an educational setting is a critical issue. The Fair Use doctrine does not allow unlimited use of copyright protected material, nor does the more recent TEACH Act (Technology, Education, and Copyright Harmonization Act). One-time-only use is permissible, but continued use must follow copyright guidelines. When in doubt about copyright law or the fair use doctrine, the more practical rule to follow is to obtain permission to use material from the owners of the material. Please leave a copy of whatever permissions you have received with the Dean of Instructional Services. This information will be filed with the syllabus of the pertinent course(s).
